THE TRAIL

Currently spanning the distance from just outside of Pittsburgh, PA and extending all the way to the C&O Canal trail running into Washington, DC, "The Great Allegheny Passage" provides riders with beautiful, ever changing vistas to enjoy as they travel on pressed limestone bike trails. Riders enter cool, peaceful groves of ancient native Mountain Laurel growing in dramatic limestone formations and emerge to encounter panoramic views of the rolling hills and beautiful rivers of Pennsylvania. Always traveling on a comfortable, smooth and level trail, recumbent riders enjoy the sights and sounds of the flowing rivers from water's edge as well as from the spectacular vantage point of the numerous towering railroad trestles crossed along the way.

The Great Allegheny Passage begins in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and runs to Cumberland, Maryland where it meets the C&O Canal Towpath trail. Local attractions include Seven Springs Resort, Nemacolin Woodlands Spa & Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece.

Trail towns along the passage offer various types of lodging - from rustic camping to luxurious Bed & Breakfasts. Shuttle services, to and from the trail, are often available with appropriate notice. Visit Lodging along the C & O Canal, to learn more about the towns waiting to welcome you along your ride.
